For Lewisville and Flower Mound homeowners

For water damage restoration in Lewisville, TX, close the main valve, stay out of any room with wet outlets and begin drying in the first 48 hours. Creek and lake water is flood, which standard homeowners policies leave out. Requests come from Lewisville, Flower Mound and nearby towns.

Which Lewisville and Flower Mound addresses do you take requests from?

Requests come from Flower Mound (75022 and 75028), Lewisville (75057, 75067 and 75077), The Colony (75056), Lake Dallas (75065), Little Elm (75068), Argyle (76226) and Roanoke (76262). PO boxes 75027 and 75029 are included. The provider who calls you says whether your street is in range.

The area wraps around Lewisville Lake in Denton County. Wikipedia gives Lewisville 111,822 residents at the 2020 Census, Flower Mound 75,956, Little Elm 46,453 and The Colony 44,534. Farther east, see Carrollton and Addison. To the west, see Grapevine and Southlake, and north is Frisco, Prosper and Celina.

Does Lewisville flood along Timber Creek and the Elm Fork?

It can, in low spots beside the creeks and the river delta. Wikipedia says Timber Creek can overflow in heavy rain and, on rare occasions, flood some nearby homes. It also says FEMA marks much of the land around the Elm Fork delta as Zone AE, which means 100-year flood precautions apply.

Lewisville covers 42.5 square miles, and 6.1 of them are water, about 14 percent. That water includes Lewisville Lake, the Elm Fork of the Trinity River, Prairie Creek and Timber Creek. The lowest ground in all of Denton County, at 484 feet, lies inside the city.

Moving water is stronger than it looks. Ready.gov puts the knock-down point for an adult at six inches, and a foot is enough to carry a vehicle off. Rising creek water is grossly contaminated Category 3 by the IICRC S500 definitions, so stay out of it. The flood zone guide and the flood cleanup page explain what to check before you re-enter a room.

How does Lewisville Lake change risk in The Colony and Little Elm?

Lakeside towns see two kinds of water, rain off the roof and rising water at the shore. Wikipedia says The Colony has about 23 miles of Lewisville Lake shoreline, and Little Elm sits on the lake's north and east shores. Each is a different case when you ask where the water came from.

The Colony did not exist until 1973, when Fox and Jacobs bought 3,000 acres and began building. It incorporated in January 1977, and water covers 12.93 percent of its 16.1 square miles. Little Elm was established in 1844 and incorporated in 1966. Its average elevation is 545 feet, and 21.83 percent of its 18.6 square miles is water.

Wikipedia says Lewisville Lake was built for flood control and as a water source for Dallas and its suburbs. A reservoir lowers some risks, but it does not remove the risk from a roof, a pipe or a clogged drain. Your own flood zone, not the lake's purpose, decides what coverage you need.

What goes wrong in fast-growing Flower Mound neighborhoods?

Streets built in the same few years age together, so the same parts fail at the same time. Wikipedia says DFW Airport opened 4 miles south of Flower Mound in 1974, and the town grew from 4,402 residents in 1980 to 50,702 in 2000. Many houses share roof age, water heater age and supply-line age.

The town had 75,956 people and 26,714 housing units in 2020. It spreads across 43.4 square miles in the Eastern Cross Timbers, beside Grapevine Lake, and Wikipedia says it incorporated on February 25, 1961. Gilgai formations on the town's namesake mound hold water, a sign that surface water can linger in places.

When a neighbor has a failed supply line, check the same fitting at home. If your water heater sits in the attic or garage, read the water heater leak page. The water damage repair page explains what rebuilding involves after the drying ends.

Can the freeze that iced Lewisville Lake burst my pipes?

Yes, and 2021 showed it. Wikipedia says large parts of Lewisville Lake froze on February 16, 2021, and that it had never frozen before. The National Weather Service says DFW Airport held at or below freezing for 139 hours in a row, so pipes had no chance to warm.

The American Red Cross lists attics, garages and kitchen cabinets as the spots where supply pipes are most at risk. The Texas Department of Insurance counts 511,473 claims statewide through June 30, 2022. If you leave town in cold weather, the Red Cross says to keep the heat at 55 F or higher.

The frozen pipe prevention guide covers drip and insulation steps, and the burst pipe page covers what to do once one has split.

Do tornado and hail storms matter here, and who pays?

They do, because this part of Denton County is in Tornado Alley, according to Wikipedia. Triple-I says Texas led the country with 902 major hail events in 2025. Hail and wind open roofs, and rain then finds its way into the attic and down through the ceiling.

Who pays depends on the source. Triple-I notes that a standard homeowners form leaves flood out, and a sewer backup is covered only if you bought an endorsement. The NAIC says a roof leak is typically covered, while runoff and ground water are not. Read the roof leak guide and the claims guide, then call your agent before you agree to any work.

What comes first once water is inside?

Safety, then the source, then speed. The EPA says to dry out water-damaged areas and items within 24 to 48 hours to head off mold. The CDC gives the same window after a flood and adds that soaked carpet and upholstery that cannot dry quickly should come out.

  1. Stay out of any room where water touches outlets or a panel.
  2. Close the water supply at the main, or at the fixture stop if the leak is small.
  3. Photograph the damage, and keep every receipt for what you buy.
  4. Give your insurer a call and ask for its steps before any tear-out.
  5. Ask the restoration provider what equipment they will place and how they will confirm the structure is dry.

Our emergency page has a fuller checklist. The structural drying page explains why drying equipment runs for days. Service ranges differ by provider, so ask about yours.

Questions people ask

Do you take requests from The Colony and Little Elm?

Yes. The Colony (75056), Little Elm (75068), Lake Dallas (75065), Argyle (76226) and Roanoke (76262) are included. Each provider sets its own service range, so ask the one who calls about your street.

Has Lewisville Lake ever frozen?

Wikipedia says large parts froze on February 16, 2021, and that it had never frozen before. The same freeze burst pipes across North Texas, so the lake was a visible sign of how cold the week was.

Is Timber Creek a flood risk for nearby homes?

Wikipedia says it can overflow in heavy rain and, on rare occasions, flood nearby homes. Check your flood zone by address and ask your agent about a separate flood policy.

Does flood insurance come with a homeowners policy?

No. FEMA says most homeowners insurance does not cover flooding. Triple-I adds that flood protection is a stand-alone NFIP or private policy, and renters need their own too.

Should I pull up wet carpet myself?

The CDC advises removing soaked carpet and upholstery that cannot be dried right away. Wear boots and gloves, and call a provider first if the water came from sewage or outside.
