For Irving and Coppell homeowners
For water damage restoration in Irving, TX, close the main water valve, document the damage and begin drying in the first 24 to 48 hours. Street or creek water is flood water and usually needs a professional. Requests come in from Irving and Coppell.
Which Irving addresses do you take requests from?
Requests come in from Irving (home ZIPs 75038, 75039, 75060, 75061, 75062 and 75063; PO box ZIPs 75014, 75015, 75016 and 75017) and Coppell (home ZIP 75019; PO box ZIP 75099). PO box ZIPs do not map to a house. Ask the provider who calls whether your street is in their travel range.
These two cities sit side by side in Dallas County, and both press up against DFW Airport. Irving is the large one, spread across Las Colinas, Valley Ranch and older streets to the east. Coppell is a small city tucked into the northwest corner of the county. Grand Prairie lies to the south and Carrollton and Addison to the east.
Can a Dallas County storm flood an Irving street?
Yes, a hard storm can. The National Weather Service says rainfall rates approached 2.25 inches in 15 minutes over Dallas County during the Mayfest storm of May 5, 1995, and 15 people died in the county, several after driving into high water.
Water that comes in from the street, a creek or a low lot is outside surface water. Under the IICRC S500 water categories, rising flood water and runoff from outside land as Category 3, meaning grossly contaminated. FEMA notes that most homeowners policies leave flood losses out, so a separate flood policy is the normal route.
Do not wade through it. Read flood cleanup first, then check the flood zone map guide for your street.
Why do Las Colinas and east Irving have different wet-house problems?
Their housing is different, and so are the leaks. Wikipedia describes Las Colinas as a mixed-use master-planned community of more than 12,000 acres, and it says eastern Irving holds older neighborhoods than the rest of the city. Newer buildings tend to leak from roofs, balconies and mechanical systems. Older ones tend to leak from aging pipes and fixtures.
Irving's own story explains the age gap. The town began in 1889 as Gorbit and became Kit in 1894. Wikipedia counts 357 residents in 1925, about 45,000 by the early 1960s and 155,037 in 1990. A house from the middle of that curve may still have original supply lines or an old water heater.

North Texas houses mostly sit on slabs and rarely have a lower level below grade, so a leak tends to show first as a stained ceiling or a damp baseboard. See the slab leak page and the water heater leak page for the signs.
How do Irving and Coppell compare on size and housing?
Irving is far larger, while Coppell is smaller and mostly owner-occupied. The table uses only Wikipedia's 2020 Census figures. It describes each city as a whole, not your street, so use it as a rough guide to the kind of building a provider may be walking into.
| City | Land and water | 2020 Census |
|---|---|---|
| Irving | 67.7 square miles in all; Las Colinas and part of DFW Airport | 256,684 people; 101,643 housing units, 6.1% vacant |
| Coppell | 14.7 square miles in all; northwest corner of Dallas County | 42,983 people; 15,498 housing units, 3.2% vacant; 70.1% owner-occupied |
Coppell incorporated in 1955, and the 1974 opening of DFW Airport turned it from a farming village into a suburb. Wikipedia says almost all of its residentially zoned land was built out by 2000.
What did the February 2021 freeze do to pipes around DFW?
It split a great many of them. DFW Airport stayed at or below freezing for 139 straight hours in February 2021, the National Weather Service reports, and bottomed out at -2 F on February 16. Irving includes part of that airport.
A Texas Department of Insurance report tallies 511,473 claims across the state by June 30, 2022. Residential property policies averaged roughly $17,800 per loss, and the report lists frozen pipes among the damage. A burst supply line is Category 1 water under the IICRC S500 standard, the cleanest kind, but it still soaks drywall and insulation fast.
Pipes in attics and exterior walls are the usual victims. If one has split, shut off the main valve first. The burst pipe page and the winter storm 2021 page go through what to do next.
What does hail do to Irving roofs?
It cracks shingles and opens seams that leak weeks later. Triple-I, citing NOAA's Storm Prediction Center, says Texas ranked first in the country with 902 major hail events in 2025. The NWS says the Mayfest storm dropped softball-size hail on Tarrant and Dallas counties, with about $2 billion in estimated damage.
The damage is easy to miss from the ground. Ceiling stains that appear after the next rain, or a damp attic, may trace back to a hail strike that nobody saw.
- Walk the yard and look for dents on gutters, vents and the AC unit.
- Check the attic ceiling with a flashlight after a storm.
- Ask a roofer for a temporary cover if shingles are missing.
- Photograph the roof and every stain before any repair starts.
Our roof leak and storm damage page covers the water side, and the hail storm roof leaks guide covers the roof.
What if I rent an apartment or condo in Irving?
Report the leak to your landlord or association in writing, photograph it, and keep a copy. Wikipedia says dense condominium and rental properties have opened in western Irving along State Highway 114, and Irving's 2020 rental vacancy rate was 6.7%. Many people here share walls and ceilings with a unit that is not theirs.
In Coppell, Wikipedia counts 29.9% of occupied homes as renter-occupied. Under Texas House Bill 531, leases signed or renewed on or after January 1, 2022 must carry the landlord's notices about 100-year floodplain status and flooding in the last five years. Read yours. The apartment and condo guide explains who handles what.
Will insurance pay for a leak, a freeze or a flood?
It depends on the source of the water. Per the NAIC, a plumbing failure or roof leak is typically covered, while ground water and rain runoff are excluded. Triple-I adds that flood sits outside standard homeowners and renters policies, and sewer backup takes its own endorsement.
TDI gives an insurer 15 business days to confirm it received your claim. Phone your agent ahead of any signed work order and find out what the adjuster needs to see. The insurance claims guide lays out the steps, and sewage backup cleanup covers the one loss that often falls outside a normal policy.
What should I do first when water gets into my Irving home?
Stop the source, then get the structure drying. The EPA's mold guidance says to dry water-damaged areas and items within 24 to 48 hours to prevent mold growth. Start with the steps below, in order, and call your insurer before any repair work begins.
- Close the main water valve. Switch off power to wet rooms only if you can reach the panel while standing on dry floor.
- Take photos and video of each wet surface and damaged item.
- Lift small rugs and move furniture off wet carpet.
- Tell your insurer what happened and ask what they want before repairs begin.
The EPA also suggests keeping indoor humidity below 60 percent, ideally 30 to 50. The emergency page has a longer checklist, and the water removal page explains extraction. Across the county line to the south, Oak Cliff has its own page.
